Google Admin Weekly: did you configure your Vault retention policy?

Hi Reader,

Google Vault is a tool I hope you donโ€™t need to use. Generally, if you have to go into the Vault, something bad happened. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Google Vault archives your Workspace data and makes it easy to search. It is commonly used for:

  • Criminal investigations
  • Employee misconduct
  • Cyberbullying incidents
  • Emergency data recovery
  • FOIA requests.

Chromebook Academy for IT Admins

Join me for a five session deep dive into managing Chromebooks through the Google Admin Console! We'll cover device selection, enrollment, policies, repair, and more!

  • Dates: Nov. 6-20, 2024 (Mon / Wed)
  • Time: 1-2:30 PM EST
  • Where: LIVE via Google Meet (sessions are recorded for on-demand viewing if you are unable to attend live)
  • Cost: $249/person (CC and purchase orders accepted)

In order for Vault to work correctly, you must specify a retention policy.

You have two options:

  • Indefinite (keep everything forever)
  • A defined retention period in # of days (data is deleted after this time)

Google recently added Vault support for Google Calendar, but if you havenโ€™t set a retention policy, Calendar data isnโ€™t being retained by Vault. The good news is that this is an easy fix!

Take 10 minutes to visit Google Vault (vault.google.com) and review your retention policies to make sure things are configured correctly.
