Today's admin tip is about confirming access to secondary Google services being used by students.

Occasionally I will introduce you to tools and services that can make your job as an IT admin easier. I only recommend products I have personally used and can confidently recommend. These sponsors help me cover the cost of maintaining my email client and help pay for my kids ballet classes, braces, etc!

Confirm your "additional" Google services

Google is now requiring annual confirmation that you have parental consent for “Additional Google Services” that are available to your students. If you don’t re-confirm your policies, these services will be automatically disabled in March 2024.

The good news is that confirming these application is really easy and won’t take more than a few minutes.

Path: Apps > Additional Google Services

Now to the bigger issue: how do you collect parental consent for use of these services?

Every school should have some type of agreement signed by parents related to technology use. This might be a good time to review your existing agreement and update it to reflect the technology that your students are using.

Google provides a helpful template that you can customize according to your schools policies and procedures. This agreement can be used to collect parental consent for core services, secondary services, and third-party services.

Guidelines and requirements related to student data privacy vary from state to state which makes this a challenging topic, but getting parental consent is never a bad idea.
